Why? One and only reason to let time is to keep the flavor on your smoked burgers. Yes, there are people who grill at 350, 400, or even 500 degrees F, but if you want flavored smoked burgers, try 225.

If you rush, smoking burgers at 250 degrees F is the maximum I advise.

Or you will get too dry and fried, not smoked burgers as a result. Smoking burgers is what we are doing in this recipe. So, what temp do you cook burgers on a Traeger? 225 degrees F.

A quick look at smoked hamburgers on the Traeger…

  1. Make beef patties and preheat the smoker.
  2. Smoke burgers.
  3. Add bun and cheese when almost done and finish smoking burgers to the desired temperature.
  4. Assemble the smoked cheeseburger and enjoy.

The cheese is better to add when the temperature is even lower on the Traeger (140 degrees), so the cheddar cheese could add smoke too.

To have it still red inside, Traeger grills rare burgers at 125-130 degrees F. Cheddar cheese will also melt.

In other recipes, people describe grilling at 350 degrees on the pellet grill. It can make the burgers crusty and the middle of the patty will not be too wet. Usually, it takes 60-90 minutes to grill using a pellet.

You can check the readiness by using a temperature probe to see the internal temperature. A special meat thermometer is sold in shops. If you see 160 degrees – perfect for ground meat well done, says the American food association.

If you do not own a meat thermometer – cut the meat into pieces to see the right color for the ready burger.

Final tip – let your pellet smoker get heated to 200 degrees before you start grilling. If you would like to cook on the slower one – heat it until 120 at least. Then only put the patties on the grill.
