If you’re in a hurry or lack the fridge space to thaw frozen burgers, you can grill the patties directly out of the freezer.
The frozen meat patties are usually packed in stacks. And it could be a hassle trying to separate them without de-frozening them. Making hamburgers is much easier with frozen patties.
It’s safe to grill frozen burgers without thawing ahead of time — but, they will take about twice as long to cook.
The grilling of frozen burgers isn’t much different from grilling them once they’ve been frozen. The most difficult part could be the separation of the patties while they’re frozen. Thawing for a couple of minutes may make splitting easier and will help the salt and pepper stick.

How to cook frozen burger patties on the grill?
Step 1
If you are using the gas grill, turn the grill to medium heat. If you’re using a charcoal grill, light the coals, and let the coals ignite until they turn white or red hot.

Step 2

If it is lower than 160 degrees, turn the patties then continue to cook until they reach 160 degrees before adding cheese.
Step 5
Next, flip the patty again and add cheese to your burger patty. Cover the lid and cook for another 3 minutes or until the cheese melts (note that if you’re adding cheese then flip it over and cook for another three minutes). After 3 minutes of grilling the frozen patties should be deemed “medium“.
If you like your burgers cooked to perfection, cook for 5 additional minutes instead of just three minutes. You can add the cheese after you’ve got about three minutes of grilling time remaining.
Step 6
If you’re cooking and the grill continues to heat, throw the hamburger buns on to give them a toasty light. For this, apply melted butter on the flat edge of the bun before you put them onto the grill. Make sure they toast at a medium heat grill temperature so as to prevent burning them.
After you’ve got your burger patties cooked and the hamburger buns are toasted, you’re now ready to build the burger to your taste.
Step 7
Remove the burger from the grill and take a bite!
Some tips on how best to grill frozen burgers
If the burgers are frozen it is recommended that you flip your patties every five minutes or so to ensure even grilling to ensure that the opposite side isn’t burned until fully thawed.
Cook burger for approximately 20 mins (flipping at least every five minutes) and cook until juices are clear.
While it may be tempting, don’t try to press down the patties as they cook time.
